POLICE raided an illegal cockpit operation that was disrupting the novena prayers at the Carreta Cemetery in Cebu City past 2 p.m. yesterday.
More than 100 people who crowded the cockfight fled at the sight of the police team sent by Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador.
Some of them leaped into a drainage canal 15 feet deep and holed up inside the culverts to hide.

Police visibility, tightened security and proper information dissemination on what things to bring in cemeteries contributed to the peaceful celebration of All Saints' Day in Cebu City and the province yesterday.
Cebu City Police Chief Patrocinio Comendador Jr. said people were properly educated and informed about what things to bring in the cemetery.
Comendador was referring to the fewer bladed weapons confiscated at the cemeteries by police yesterday compared to last year's haul.

A total of 50 guns, a hand grenade, two grenade rifles and shotgun ammunition have been surrendered in different Cebu City police stations as the gun amnesty program continues.

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) yesterday announced it will be filing a complaint of malversation of public property against P03 Reynaldo Solante of the Provincial Police Intelligence Branch and his wife Christine.
CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador said Reynaldo violated a provision in the Revised Penal Code (RPC) when he allowed his civilian-wife Christine to transport an M16 rifle, which is a government property.

CITING the lack of interest of and the failure by 20-year-old Samantha Elise Benitez to turn over evidence, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) yesterday terminated its investigation on the alleged threat by the son of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
"Without the testimonies of the aggrieved party and the evidence to back it up, the case cannot stand," CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador told reporters yesterday.
Samantha's family will be relocating to the United States by Oct. 15.

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will file another 30-day leave starting today while the police investigation of the incident involving his son, Miguel is still ongoing.
Cebu City Police Chief Patrocinio Comendador Jr. said the results of the investigation would be released today.
The results would show whether or not there was evidence that would prove that Miguel was the one who sent threatening text messages to and shot the camera of Samantha Benitez, a friend of his girlfriend, Bea Villegas.

THE family of Samuel Q. Dotillos cried foul over what they described as an act of "overkill" by Cebu City policemen who gunned down Samuel at the North Reclamation Area last Tuesday night.
Samuel's widow Leticia went to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) 7 yesterday, asking it to look into the killing.
In a report over GMA 7's Una sa Balita yesterday, Leticia lamented the manner by which Samuel was shot and killed by operatives of the Mabolo Police Station and the Mobile Patrol Group (MPG).

A man suffering from nervous breakdown was shot dead by police after he allegedly ran amok along S. Osmeña Road, North Reclamation Area, Cebu City shortly before midnight on Tuesday.
The bullet-ridden body of Samuel Dotillos, 57, was found at the corner of Cabahug Street and S. Osmeña Road.
The victim bore multiple gunshot wounds.
Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said the incident was a legitimate police operation.

CEBU City Acting Mayor Michael Rama welcomed the Cebu City Police Office's (CCPO) investigation on the allegations against Miguel Osmeña, and said he will keep his hands off the probe.
Rama also appealed to the family of Miguel's accuser and the public to give the city police the chance to do their job, amid suspicions that the police can be influenced by the city officials in their investigation.
